It’s only
fitting that today – the first warm, beautiful Saturday of the year – Rebelution
and their West Coast good vibes are rolling into Town Ballroom. There’s going to be positivity
and delightful aromas in the air tonight, folks. Call this hyperbole, call this
whatever you want, but seeing Rebelution is more than attending a concert: It’s
an organic event; they play music and by its nature their music makes you feel better. It
could be the contact high you’ll get, probably while your still outside in line. But I think it’s
the music.
Rebelution’s
been here before. They very nearly stole the show from Slightly Stoopid at Town
Ballroom back in 2009, and they opened for Ozomatli at Thursday at the Square in
2010. They definitely picked up a few fans at the Square – it was one of those “holy
shit, who are these guys” kinds of shows – but let’s talk about the Town
Ballroom in 2009. After their set a buddy and I spotted their bass player, Marley Williams down the aisle from us, listening to Slightly Stoopid like everyone else. And
even if our conversation wasn’t as mutually enjoyable as I remember it being,
here was a dude in a famous band that’d just played a killer set just hanging
out in the crowd, talking to fans without making a spectacle of it. Alert to
bands out there: that’s how you get fans for life.
You need to
forget whatever it is you think you may be doing tonight and go to this show.
Tickets are $20, doors open at 7:30. Two openers, J BOOG and Hot Rain, will
kick things off.
