As the official release of their third album, Modern Vampires of the City, quickly approaches (May 7), Vampire Weekend released a new track today. "Ya Hey," picks up where "Step" left off, anchored by a bouncy and baroque piano and Ezra Koenig's searching vocals. The tone remains playful throughout, a shrill helium filled pitch interrupting Koenig as if in response to what he is singing. Towards the end, the song fills out with synth before fading away. As is the case with all of the early cuts from Modern Vampires of the City, "Ya Hey" feels like a logical progression of the band's sound. Hopefully the album can build on the promise of these early tracks.
