The first time I heard The Tins, I immediately wondered how these guys escaped my admittedly specific, yet relatively sharp musical radar. Then, as I am wont to do, I started trying to compare them to other bands and the band I settled on was Band of Horses. Pitchfork once suggested that Ben Bridwell has a honeypot in his throat – allow me to steal that and use it to describe the way lead vocalist Adam Putzer sounds on most of the tracks on their debut LP, Life's A Gas. I guess the similarities with Band of Horses pretty much end there; Band of Horses has developed a tendency recently to get very slow and mellow with things, while The Tins give off more of a progressive, experimental, get-up-and-dance-right-now vibe that I’d imagine would translate into an energetic, possibly wild live set.
Oh hey,
speaking of live sets, The Tins are playing tonight at Mr. Goodbar! And it
costs $3! Anyone who’s been inside the cavern that is Mr. Goodbar knows that it
can quickly turn into an interesting night, so let The Tins be your excuse to
go out and get weird tonight. The show starts at 11, with local contemporaries On Beta opening for them.
