One word normally not found in any Explosions in the Sky write up is "brevity." Their usually epic and sprawling post rock compositions take time to unfold, meaning short tunes really has never been their bag. So when they released "Wading," the meditative track from their David Wingo collaborative score for the upcoming film Prince Avalanche, I immediately took note of that run time. Under 2 mins? Now this could easily just be a snippet of something longer, but I am excited for this possible new direction. This is EITS' first soundtrack/score work since Friday Night Lights and given the minimal sound of "Wading," this could be a curious, but interesting project, especially for a film whose trailer doesn't exactly scream minimal post rock. The soundtrack to Prince Avalanche will be released on August 6th.
