Tonight,
Alice Cooper and Marilyn Manson will play at Buffalo’s Outer Harbor as part of
the Masters of Madness tour. So if you are driving across the Skyway this
evening, and there are kids in the vehicle, you might want to play the “let’s
see who can keep their eyes closed the longest” game.
This marks
the third year in a row Alice Cooper is performing in Buffalo. I missed last year’s Darien Lake show, but his 2011 show at the Inner Harbor was
memorable for two reasons: the way he gingerly walked across the stage the
entire night like the 63 year old man he was, and that this 63 year old man
spent most of the night doing things to and with a naked blow-up doll. His
music held up decently, but it’s tough to really nitpick a watered down version
of “Eighteen” when you are watching a 63 year old man dry hump a blow up doll. So
if shock value – or lack thereof – is of concern to you, don’t worry: he hasn’t
gone soft in his old age.
Same goes for
Marilyn Manson, who just made headlines for “paying tribute” to Paris Jackson –
who recently attempted suicide – by pretending to slit his wrist on stage. That
seems healthy. Manson, who is a relatively spry 44 years old, clearly still has
it.
So, the question:
is it worth it to pay $30 to see a sideshow that might turn into a concert with
some maybe-above-average music? Yes. These are two artists who are like those
two kids in school who always needed to be separated because they were bad
influences on each other. And now they are together and it’s going to be a
mess. Doors open at 6, with Picture Me Broken opening.
