I think something that sometimes gets lost in Buffalo's music scene is the art of band/show promotion. Creating an event page a day or two before a show isn't going to help; you have to put in some effort. Mallwalkers gets that. An eye catching show poster (see above) and two excellent music videos directed by a few of Sugar City's "Sugar Citizens" make a difference in building hype. Local shows don't always have buzz around them, but tonight's record release show at the Polish Library (612 Fillmore Ave) has people excited.
Making a great record like Shake The Rust Off, released on local label Peterwalkee Records, doesn't hurt either. Mallwalkers is Buffalo's answer to King Khan & the Shrines: a massive party band that manages to successfully blend rust belt grime with soulful funk. Plus, what other band in Buffalo has their very own "dance floor justice?"
Joining the gang of Mallwalkers to celebrate their record release are local friends and fellow ice cream enthusiasts JOHNS, upstate power poppers Kitty Little, and 12/8 Path Band, a marching band that appears to have been plucked right out of New Orleans and dropped into our city. Tonight's show begins at the very pleasant time of 7pm, and considering some of the other options going on in the Buffalo area this evening, that $6 cover is prob the best bang for you buck.
