Tonight, the stars align for a special Thursday at Canalside with rock legend Todd Rundgren's return to Buffalo for what's sure to be a special night for music lovers. One of the most prolific artists of the rock era, the 65 year old Rundgren has done it all: he's a multi-instrumentalist singer/songwriter/producer who's released 24 albums since the early 70's, mastering countless genres in the process. He went his own way as one of the original indie rockers (30 years before the Internet) much like Shuggie Otis. He was Prince before there was Prince, and he's produced albums for artists as diverse as XTC, Bad Religion, Meatloaf, and Patti Smith.
He's also an electrifying performer and a mighty bandleader with live shows that are a spectacular, satisfying mix of classics and new material and plenty of sardonic banter. The restlessly creative artist released his 24th album, State, this past spring.
This is a can't miss opportunity to check out a true rebel/outsider musical genius, for free, down on the waterfront under the stars. Todd indeed is God (as his loyal fans gladly attest). You'll see.
As an added bonus, Brooklyn funk/soul outfit Sister Sparrow and the Dirty Birds will be bringing some ruckus when they open the show along with local blokes This Is Fiction. The music at Canalside starts at 5. See you there.
