Grace Potter, pictured above looking like a cross between Stevie Nicks and Jesus Christ, is coming back to Buffalo tonight at Town Ballroom. That picture was taken a few months ago at the Outer Harbor where, with some major help from the weather, she stole the show from the iconic Tragically Hip. During that show she announced she was returning to Buffalo on September 11th, and the roar of the crowd indicated a lot of people would be joining her.
Tonight is going to be special. I know I say that a lot, but the boy who cried wolf did eventually come across one. The Nocturnals are loud, Grace Potter is a striking presence, and I'm not sure if Town Ballroom will be able to hold them. And it will literally be special: Town Ballroom announced last night that this is going to be an "evening with" type of show. They're going on at around 8:30 and will be playing for over 2 hours, which is big news when you consider her last few Buffalo sets have been 40-50 minutes. Blues-rock bands excel during long, live shows, and Grace Potter & The Nocturnals, more specifically, have this remarkable ability to stretch short, semi-cheesy, semi-pop songs into long, layered ballads without losing anything in translation.
As of this writing, it looks like the show is sold out. But if you already knew Grace Potter, I'm sure you've had a ticket for weeks.
