Tonight: Spiritualized

Few records have managed to achieve such a blissful take on melancholia quite like Spiritualized's 1997 masterpiece album, Ladies and Gentlemen We are Floating In Space. Formed after the demise of legendary psychedelic indie band Spacemen 3 by Jason Pierce, the band's main songwriter and sole constant member, their sound incorporates elements of space rock, shoegaze, gospel and blues. Much of the genius of their landmark record lies in the wall of sound production, influenced by pop legends Phil Spector and Brian Wilson which brought the band's sound to a symphonic level that earned them undisputed critical acclaim.

Last year saw the release of their seventh studio album, Sweet Heart Sweet Light, a record that made its' way onto many end of the year best-of lists that marked a return to form after Pierce fell ill with life-threatening pneumonia back in 2005. Known for their ambitious live performances that have included string sections and gospel choirs, fans will get a taste for how the band's newer material will translate live tonight at the Waiting Room. Doors open at 8pm and tickets can be purchased for $27 here.  Guy Blakeslee, of Los Angeles psychedelic rock outfit The Entrance Band, will open the show.
