Listener's Digest: Superchunk - "Breaking Down" (acoustic)

Superchunk have given the world plenty of great music over the past two plus decades, but they're not usually not for making anything delicate, pretty, or gentle. The band who opened their career by telling off anyone who would dare to peg them as "slack motherfuckers" have always been more known for their blistering pieces of molten grunge-punk. But with this, an acoustic version of a track of their excellent new LP I Hate Music, we see a rarity for Superchunk - a song that is downright beautiful.

From the gentle guitar lines to their flawless harmonizing, it's as lovely a song as the band has ever recorded, and it's a fine reminder that despite their any years in the business, their songwriting skills have not deteriorated the slightest bit.
