After already having been active in Buffalo's live music scene, Suzanne Bonifacio, aka Space Cubs, has finally released her first EP, Come Forth, Die Down- a four track collection that I'm tempted to almost characterize as a spiritual saga. Each song playing as a static journey; opposite of any flat, predictable verse chorus tune. For instance, the opening track "Why Are You Resisting?" lulls listeners into a trance-like state as Bonifacio croons "Sing to the one who gave you your life" before escalating into house-y terrain.
The rest of the EP continues to explore a diverse catalogue of vocal experimentation in the context of emotions. Bonifacio's strong suit lays in her expressiveness, elegantly combining the spiritual and the romantic with melodies that seem to demonstrate that the journey of self knowledge is more than a matter of self. She isn't afraid of tapping into unnavigable territory, but similarly to earthy electronic artists such as Bjork and Boards of Canada, her music contains subtle glimpses of tranquility beneath the pretense of complete psychic distortion. Basically, calling it "worth a listening" would definitely be an understatement.
