Yesterday, buffaBLOG editor, Mac McGuire lauded bandcamp for delivering some audio gems in the past couple of weeks with new various up-and-coming bands in Western NY (Zealot, The Huckleberry Fins, Spirit Choir). Today, we will add onto the aforementioned list with a purrty great lo-fi organ trio called Cheesecats. Dubbing themselves as “katrock,” Cheesecats sound like a sappy Casiotone for the Painfully Alone meets a cute-centric Daniel Johnston. This feline core project started roughly two years ago, when organist/singer, Eva, let a begging cat lick some cheese she was eating and with that, lightning struck. “If you want to lick my cheese, you can lick my cheese.” Voila. It almost writes itself. The mewsic is undeniably adorable, with tracks about bunnies, lost kitties, interspecies relationships, and cheese.
On December 14th, Cheesecats will be playing a mysterious house show with Jump the Blinds, C.O.X, and Jerry & the Corpse Grinders. Maybe we’ll find out some of the details and post about it on December 14th, but I really hope they will have painted on whiskers and cat ears.
