Tonight: Raya Brass Band

The lively, Balkan-influenced sounds of Brooklyn-based Raya Brass Band will come through Buffalo this evening. Their uncapped energetic phrases are a captivating blend of a variety of musical backgrounds, such as punk, funk, jazz, and traditional wedding tunes from the Greece and Balkan regions. This style is certainly a dizzying and mesmerizing combination. Opening the evening is Buffalo-based group Ahavaraba, who call themselves a (sometimes) seven or eight-piece band. Their music draws from the traditional/untraditional Jewish Klezmer folk tunes, combined with horns and a mixed-bag of other instruments. $5 suggested donation. Music will begin at 8 sharp, at the Hickory Urban Sanctuary, located at 232 Pratt St. in Buffalo!
