Big Suze is a band introduced to me by our lovely
editor, Mac, who is always throwing local punks acts at me—and without fail, I
fall in love with all of them. Maybe the other reason I consistently fall for
these bands Mac bequeaths unto me is that most of them are Drug Party
productions. Any album that Drug Party puts out is either quintessential punk
rock or funky cheese: interesting, but delicious. Big Suze is no exception,
ranking in the quintessential realm.
Though the overall sound is classic, Suze adds a twist of
freshness with jumbled sub-genres of the sludge and thrash kind. From their
just released self-titled album, “My Bed” takes my cake with the winding riff
slowly becoming slurred by the warbling guitar solo closing the track. Big vibes oozing from Big Suze.
