The very best line I read anywhere about Slave Ambient, the 2011 breakthrough record from Philadelphia's The War on Drugs, was that "it's as if the Spiritualized and Springsteen albums filed alphabetically next to one another in your record collection had melted together on a hot August afternoon." Now that is how you sell a record (full review here) and if it doesn't want to make you pick up the sometimes laid back, sometimes absolutely exhilarating album from Kurt Vile's former group, then we gotta talk.
The freewheelin bliss rockers, and yes you can throw in some kraut rock too if you wish, luckily have just announced a stop in Buffalo, set to come through town on Sunday, April 13th in in support of their much anticipated new album, Lost In The Dream (3/18). The album's fantastic first single, "Red Eyes," can be heard below. Tickets are on sale now for $17 in advance/$23 day of. I will be seeing you there.
Woah. One of my all-time favorite bands. This is huge. Buying tickets now.
