buffaBLOG Road Trip: Connan Mockasin

I really like checking out live music in Buffalo, I really do, but sometimes you gotta go hang out with his cool older brother Toronto to see a great show. So tonight, we're putting on our shoes and trekking up to our socialist neighbor in the North to see psychedelic freaks/virtuosos Connan Mockasin perform at The Drake ($13, 8pm).

Connan has been making ripples on other continents for a couple years: collaborating with Fatboy Slim, touring with Radiohead, and releasing two pysch R&B masterpieces, Forever Dolphin Love and Caramel (the latter of which made our year-end best-of roundup a few weeks ago). But this current stint marks the first time the enigmatic New Zealand group make their rounds in North America. It's a short run, and the band is only playing six shows (Manhattan, Brooklyn, Philly, Toronto, LA, and San Fran), but we've been fawning over their live performances on YouTube for a while, and heck, we'll be darned if we're gonna miss this.

You should come with. I have extra seats in my car. That's a real thing [steve at buffablog dot com]. But if you're not allowed in Canada or something, then eat a ton of brain drugs and get into a mind-bending YouTube vortex tonight instead (see below), then start crossing your fingers that Connan comes to Buffalo next time around.
