Kid On Purpose Releases Paper Moonlight Symphony

Kid On Purpose's new visual album Paper Moonlight Symphony tackles a slew of components and hooks them well, relaying a 33-minute montage that expresses the subconscious currents spurred from a continuous mix of psyche-twisting electronic tussles and funk jams. Zach Acard began the compilation in October 2012, and finished the work this past December. The dedication to this symphonic whirlwind is apparent in the meticulous and seamless way the music and video hook onto one another. One moment there are spandex-clad lasses dashing sideways with television sets on their heads, the next minute a slow-groove kicks off a Tesselmania-resembling pattern.

Each song hints at a type of character, or quality, such as the pairing of "Actress" and "Fetishism" or "<3// Computer Love" and "Homewreckrrr." A sly, well-dressed farm animal couple twirls together in the opening of "Actress" and a tangy synth ebbs the continued panning to an accumulation of chipper barn creatures. A skip-in-the-record kicks off "Fetishism" and carries over the animal-theme to a series of humans wearing animal masks with two divas in the background walking forward. The music picks up on a jam-reggae style heavy on organ, as a saxophone trill triggers a 3-D fractal iridescent filter. It's a subtle, relevant message, at least to this listener, that a "worship of the witch" causes a primal instinct and an energetic, rhythmic spark. Acard marries a thought-provoking narrative to hypnotizing, erotic synths.

Paper Moonlight Symphony is catchy, provocative, and will more than likely cause a dopamine release.  If you're into highly-stylized, comical illustrations juxtaposed next to a more serious, delicate compilation of the study of life, this one's for you. Lucky enough you can snag a copy of the album for free right here.
