Super Bowl XLVIII Playlist

The most hallowed American holiday of them all is upon us! That' right, it's time for another Super Bowl, as the Denver Broncos take on the Seattle Seahawks. To get you prepared for the big day, we here at buffaBLOG have comprised a playlist of songs related to game in one way or another. If you somehow aren't pumped up for an evening of Bruno Mars and head trauma already, please give it a listen.

Roy Orbison - "Crying"
To Broncos running back Knowshon Moreno, who famously let the tears flow before a game against the Chiefs this year. Moreno's emotion is certainly understandable - after a couple years of being considered a bust, he broke through for a thousand yard season, and will be one of the more sought after running backs in the league when he becomes a free agent this spring. The Seahawks have an excellent pass defense, so Moreno will need to have a big day on the ground for the Broncos to have a shot.

Dropkick Murphys - "Going Out In Style"
To the lingering possibility that Peyton Manning may call it quits after this game. He may need yet another neck surgery in the offseason, and that may be too much for him to handle. Obviously, it would be great if Peyton can play a few more years, but if he has no choice to but to retire after Sunday, it would be pretty cool to see him go out on top.

Counting Crows - "Omaha"
To Manning's signature catchphrase (he yells during audibles, and can mean anything depending on the nature of the play), which is somewhere between "smurf" and "superclalifragilisticexpialidocious" on the "no one actually knows what the fuck this means" scale.

Simple Minds - "Don't You (Forget About Me)"
This one goes out to Seawhawks QB Russell Wilson, who has gone strangely overlooked in the lead up to the big game. It's his second season in the league, his career record (including playoffs) is 27-9, and he has 52 touchdowns and 19 interceptions for his career. Winning a Super Bowl in his second year would add a great deal to what is already an amazing resume, which makes the lack of attention around him rather surprising.

Pearl Jam - "Black"
To Buffalo Bills fans, who will have to suffer the misery of watching Marshawn Lynch reel off big gains for the Seahawks one more time. Lynch was decent in three plus seasons in Buffalo, but his career really took off after being traded to Seattle in 2010. "I know some day you'll have a beautiful  life/ I know you will be a star/in somebody else's sky/but why, why/why can it be mine?" Damn, Eddie, that cuts like a knife.

The Rolling Stones - "Prodigal Son"
To Seahawks receiver Percy Harvin, the most unknown quantity in this game. Harvin has missed most of the season with injuries but could end up being a huge factor if he can just avoid getting hurt again (each time he has appeared in a game this season, he's re-aggravated an injury). If Harvin helps the Seahawks win the Super Bowl, fans will remember that far more than any of the games he missed.

Ramones - "Loudmouth"
To Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman, for fairly obvious reasons. To be clear, I like Sherman, and the notion that he was a "thug" was a lot of racist garbage. But he does like to talk smack, and draw attention to himself. I don't see how anyone can deny that. With that said, it's not really a bad thing either. Loudmouths like Sherman are fun, and make the game a bit more enjoyable.

Blind Melon - "Three Is A Magic Number"
To Broncos receiver Wes Welker, who is looking for his first Super Bowl ring on his third try, the first two coming with the Patriots, who lost to the Giants both times. Also, if you've never heard it, Blind Me;on's take on the famous "Schoolhouse Rock" tune is pretty awesome. It'll certainly stick in your head for awhile.

L'Trimm - "Cars That Go Boom"
The Seahawks defense is called the Legion Of Boom. Out of all the songs I could think of with the word "boom" in the title, this one is my favorite. This ain't exactly rocket science, people.

Black Sabbath - "Snowblind"
As you've probably heard by now, this is the first outdoor Super Bowl to be played in a cold weather city, and there's a chance that this game could be cold and snowy as fuck. Is anyone not rooting for this? The temperature is supposed to be a lot warmer come Sunday, but man, I would kill for 10 inches of snow and below freezing temperatures while I watched the game in my cozy, well-heated apartment. I'm an ass.

Ashley Monroe - "Weed Instead Of Roses"
Obligatory reference to the game featuring teams from the two states who have legalized marijuana, but also a chance to mention one of the my favorite songs of 2013! Subversive country is always the best country.
