It’s no secret that Buffalo gets passed over from time to time for shows, for a more populated northern city with a more theatrical mayor as well as a better hockey team. Come on somebody had to say it! No offence Byron Brown or Ryan Miller. However, we Buffalonians get lucky from time to time. Today is one of those days. The Tralf theatre has just announced that they will be bringing in the Minneapolis synth-pop duo POLIÇA for their Buffalo debut on Monday June 2nd.
POLIÇA brings together former Gayngs (a 25 member musical collective) members Ryan Olson (production) and Channy Leaneagh. POLIÇA isn’t in reference to the Spanish word for police, that is policia. POLIÇA translates in Polish to policy, which according vocalist Channy Leaneagh is more than just a band name. She sees the group’s name as a reference to an unwritten code that guides the members when they play together.
Last fall, POLIÇA released their sophomore effort, Shulamith, a title which was inspired by the radical feminist with the same name Shulamith Firestone.
Tickets go on sale this Friday February 28th at noon for $14/$16 day of.
