2013 was a big year for MS MR, who released their debut album, Secondhand Rapture, and found a considerable audience for their brooding-but-catchy brand of indie pop. The single "Hurricane," with its instantly memorable chorus ("Welcome to the innerworkings of my mind"), become quite popular on alternative radio stations, and peaked at No. 8 on Billboard's alternative charts. The album itself was full of similarly hooky tracks like the bitter kiss-off "Think of You," and "Dark Doo Wop," which more or less delivers what it promises.
Tonight, the duo - who met as Vassar College - will be taking their sound to the Town Ballroom along with opening act Gangs Of Youth. For anyone looking to see a frequently buzzed-about band on the verge of their big break, or for anyone just look for some disturbed-but-hooky indie-pop, this will not be a show to miss. Tickets are $20 at the door, and the good times start at 7pm.
