Tonight: Waxeater

Good rock'n'roll should sound just like this. Messy. Dirty. A bit mean and a bit weird. Waxeater is a sound that cannot be contained. Just when you think you've got ahold of their garage blues vibe, they throw in some dirgy bass and mix it up with those spider crawling guitars, or as most rock critics call it "angular" guitar. Waxeater is pure vibes, all balls, and some tail. In other words they're fantastic.

The only venue appropriate for these Indiana post-rock upstarts is the Vault (8pm, $8), and that's exactly where they'll be playing tonight. Along with Vic-Lazar's proggy Bone Vapor, Total Overcomers and King Vitamin. This is the kind of show where people will be jumping around and going a little bonkers. Come get bonkers with em.

Tonight: Sonorous Gale, Mordaunt Sisters, Bone Vapor

If your ears haven't filed assault and battery charges against you in a while and that makes you uncomfortable, then definitely head down to Allentown tonight for the Sonorous Gale show (Nietzsche's, 248 Allen St., 9pm, $5). This two-piece has been a staple of loud, loud Buffalo line-ups for years, blasting their proggy sludge noise at countless basements and dive bars full of melting faces. You wouldn't believe the amount of sound they generate with just bass and drums, unless of course you've been one of those faces. Tonight's show also features Bone Vapor, who described themselves as “this insane machine of riff assault” in a recent buffaloshows.net post. And just to lull your ear drums into a false sense of security, The Mordaunt Sisters will be providing their slow, wasteland folk. Or, well. Nothing is rushed about them; they took months to get the full band together and start releasing music, and I haven't seen them in a while, so who knows. Maybe they're spazzcore now?
