Brat'ya Returns With New Single

Brat'ya, one of the side projects from Smart House and Automap member Alek Ogadzhanov, released a new song via the act's soundcloud page yesterday. As you may remember, Ogadzhanov was the brains behind our #3 Buffalo track of 2013, "Car Ride." "Maps," his latest, is a very driving cut of  80s synth's mixed with experimental percussion, and fans of Metronomy would be wise to check out. We are still trying to figure out the difference between all of Ogadzhanov's projects here at the blog, but in the mean time, check out "Maps" below.

Local Artist Spotlight: Smart House/Brat'ya

Brat'ya is the solo project of Smart House's Alek Ogadzhanov.  Unfortunately for us buffaBLOGGERS, both acts are suspiciously mum on the juicy details of each project...  But what we can tell you is this - whereas Smart House crafts swimmy, electronica-tinged indie rock, Brat'ya focuses on the electronic aspects of music - playing with samples, drum machines, and synths.  Either way, Ogadzhanov is the mastermind behind each project, and we predict he may be one of Buffalo's big breakout artists for this upcoming summer.

Fans of The Postal Service and Four Tet will enjoy Brat'ya's offerings.  Smart House falls somewhere in between The Pains of Being Pure at Heart or even Wild Nothing.  Either way, it's all worth a listen.  Listen below or check them out at their next show - Smart House is playing June 14th at the Waiting Room.

Tonight: Mansions on the Moon

If you want to get a sneak peek at Buffalo's newest venue, The Waiting Room, before their Grand Opening Party tomorrow, tonight is your chance. Los Angeles based four piece Mansions on the Moon will be performing, along with electro pop duo Carousel, at the newly christened club at Delaware and West Tupper. Formed in 2011, Mansions consists of former Pnuma Trio members Lane Shaw and Ben Hazlegrove, with the addition of vocalist Tom Wendler and bassist Jeff Maccora. No strangers to Buffalo's music scene, both Mansions and Pnuma Trio have made stops at Soundlab in the past (a venue whose future is uncertain). Combining Pnuma's rock steady rhythm section with Tom's breezy vocals, the sound falls somewhere near M83 circa Saturdays=Youth, yet with more rhythmic playfulness due to Lane Shaw's inventive drumming.

Opening the show will be Buffalo's own Go Exploring, whose Adventures I count among my favorite recent local releases, and minimal synth pop artist Brat'ya.  Doors are at 7, with tickets at the door for $12. Buffalo doesn't put together a synth heavy lineup of this quality very often, so you owe it to yourself to check it out. I for one am excited to peek up The Waiting Room's skirt before her big reveal. (I felt like Harry Crane writing that sentence...)
