Tonight: Effective Resolution

Have you been to Slyboots Headquarters yet?? If not, then tonight is a great night to stop by. It's the headquarters of Slyboots School of Music & Art where you can take lessons, but at night you can catch some of the best local music around.  Tonight, newly formed band Effective Resolution takes the stage.  I saw them play at Nietzsche's not too long ago and they were so much fun and very talented.  Their music brings many musical influences including R&B, reggae, and hip hop. The show will also feature a light display by Ripe Audio. The show starts at 9 pm with Effective Resolution taking the stage at midnight. According to facebook, there are some special guests to perform before and possibly no cover (don't take my word on this, its all according to facebook). Have fun!

Tonight: Effective Resolution, Slip Madigan, The MKGs

A extravajamza (see what I did there?) is set to take place at Nietzsche's tonight. The combination of Effective Resolution, Slip Madigan, and the newly formed MKGs is indeed a groovy one, as all three groups are liable to stretch a jam into funky and psychedelic territory. I've seen Effective Resolution (pictured above) a few times, and there really isn't any band in Buffalo anything like them. Their brand of hip-hop, R&B, funk, and rock music is unique and refreshing. Slip Madigan, meanwhile, has been taking the scene by storm with what they call "psychedelic experimental folk-rockin' mind-expanding knifetastic brainfood." That should be enough to get you to check them out. Show starts at 10 p.m.

Tonight: Type Relevant & Brownman / Effective Resolution

Are you into a wide variety of music styles? are you free tonight? Well, I've got a show downtown you should consider attending.

Opening the night will be Buffalo's own Effective Resolution, they're a newly formed band that claims to be a genre-blending mix of hip-hop, R&B, rock, and reggae. Surprisingly, that's a pretty fair description of their sound if a song like "Fell So Far" is any indication. That song features a wide variety of live instrumentation and cool sampled effects of what sounds like thunder and a... woodpecker at one point? The keys are triumphant and the groove reminds me of something from the realm of 70s prog music.

Jazz and hip-hop have always been intertwined as rapping over jazz inspired beats is a huge part of hip-hop's origins. Headlining tonight @ Slyboots, Buffalo's own Type Relevant collaborates with Canadian-Born Jazz trumpeter Brownman. Both acts will share the stage and act as the other's backing band. It will be a headlining act of local Hip-Hop flavor with authentic jazz instrumentation and improvisation. Fans of truly live Hip-Hop should look no further. It will be a posse-night with many MCs and musicians sharing the stage to create something truly unique. Guest MCs include: Dr. Ooo, Mad Dukez, and Tommy Too.

Slyboots is located @350 Ellicott street (near the electric Tower). Admission is $10 at the door and the show begins at 10PM.
