Tonight: Polish Library Benefit Show

The Polish Library (612 Fillmore Ave) is one of Buffalo's most treasured cultural centers. Located on the east side of Buffalo, the Adam Mickiewicz Polish Library and Dramatic Circle, as it is officially known, is recognized as one of the first theaters in the city, in addition to hosting social club events and having a pretty awesome beer selection to boot. In more recent times, it has served as a music venue to some of Buffalo's best punk and hardcore bands. The last few years have seen some amazing shows pass through the Library's worn doors, including a couple of the infamous Decency Rallies.

Recently the library purchased the lot next door and are looking to expand in the near future. Tonight's benefit show aims to raise funds for this cause. You have some great bands from the punk, hardcore and indie scene including everybodies favorite surf-punk act, Mayday!, lovers of dissonant, Sonorous Gale, party punks, the Narcs, Water Torture, Dream Journal and Animal Lover. For $5, that's a steal. Come down, buy some beers and support a good cause. Shows at 7.

Tonight: Buffalo Band Music Video Showcase

If you're looking to kick back with a pint after amassing your Record Store Day booty, Sugar City is presenting a free event down at Essex St. Pub that's worth checking out. A plethora of Buffalo based bands, including Failure's Union, UVB-76, Jack ToftHandsome Jack, Cages, A Relative Term, and more will be showcasing their music videos with a special screening. The screening will also feature music video premieres from JOHNS and Mallwalkers. The event goes from 9-11, so whether you're still reeling from the fisticuffs you got in with someone over that last Space Wolves cassette, or you've smoked enough weed to realize that you just want to drink without talking to people, make this your stop.

Tonight: Abusing the Word Reunion

If you were involved in the Western NY punk rock scene in the early 2000's, you remember Abusing the Word. Their caustic blend of crust, progressive punk, and no frills, melodically challenging, hardcore was both unique and urgent. They were a great band. Unfortunately, as often is the case, we lose great bands.

Tonight, you have the chance to relive that magic again, or perhaps to see them for the first time. Sharing the bill are local heavies Human Touch, Gas Chamber (one of my favorite live acts, period) and Water Torture. And some band called Napalm Donut apparently?

This show is going to kill. If you've heard the name heed the recommendation and take the short trek to the Polish Library. It's $5 and starts at 7pm. You've been warned.
