Tonight: Ice Cube at Town Ballroom

West coast hip hop legend and gangsta rap pioneer Ice Cube will be performing tonight at the Town Ballroom.  Mr. Cube orginally gained attention as a member and main rhyme writer in the group N.W.A, which released the seminal Straight Outta Compton in 1988.  Legal disputes and creative issues led Ice to strike out on his own and in 1990 he released his solo debut, AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted.  It was produced in collaboration with The Bomb Squad, better known for their work with Public Enemy.  It was a hit, as were his several subsequent albums, like Lethal Weapon and Death Certificate, which was the first rap album to go platinum.  In 1991, he also starred in the acclaimed Boyz N The Hood, which was a gritty portrayal of life in South Cental Los Angeles.  As the 90's progressed, Ice Cube continued to produce music, starting a record label and a production company.  In recent years, he has made an even bigger name for himself as an actor, driving movies like Barbershop, Friday, and their respective sequals to boxoffice success.  All in all, Ice Cube is a true visonary whose career has evolved from convtroversy-laden rapping gangster, to family film hero.  Doors open at 8pm, and tickets are still available.
