F*cked Up's Rock Opera Comes Alive

Yesterday, Matador Records announced on Facebook that the first 30 fans to reply to an e-mail address would receive a digital copy of the song “Ship of Fools”, the third single to be leaked from Toronto post hardcore group Fucked Up’s upcoming album David Comes To Life. Fucked Up is a six piece that incorporates dense east-coast hardcore, with progressive song structure, and some incredibly sweet and light harmonies (including “girly” vocals from bass player Sandy Miranda).

The band has a rumored “7th member”, named David Eliade, whom has never been to a live performance, and according to the band’s Wikipedia page, his name may be an acronym. The new album, David Comes To Life is a rock opera based on David, with a complete back story (available here), a character list, and to fully add to the depth of the world they have created, Fucked Up recorded several singles in character; they released several EP’s on record store day of these bands from the town they have created.

Regardless if David is real or not, here is the new Fucked Up song “Ship of Fools”. The other singles are available on the web, including on Youtube. The CD comes out June 7th.
