Tonight: Joan Baez

Few musicians can boast careers as long as Joan Baez’s. Since the late 1950s, Baez has released over 30 albums, rallied for myriad social causes, and established herself as a folk icon.

It’s hard to tell which is more impressive - her work as a musician, or her work as an activist. One thing is certain- Baez represents music’s power to raise awareness of important social issues. Amnesty International even went so far as to establish a Joan Baez Award in recognition of her human rights work. Baez received the first award this past March, and future awards will be given to artists and musicians who make similar contributions to the cause.

Tonight, Buffalo is lucky enough to welcome Baez to Kleinhans Music Hall. The show is sold out, but maybe if we’re lucky she’ll join the Occupy Buffalo protesters on Saturday morning.
