Tonight: 10th Annual Joe Strummer Tribute

Punk rock / musical legend Joe Stummer died 9 years ago yesterday (at the "young" age of 50 years old), and the world still misses him. Joe Strummer was more than just a member of the Clash; he was / is a punk icon. He was a musically adventurous activist, and his work lives on through his fans, his family and friends, and and through the foundation for new music they started in his name, Strummerville. All of the merchandise from Strummerville merch goes to charity, and before his death, Strummer was also a big part in starting Future Forests (AKA The Carbon Neutral Company); a coalition dedicated to reforestation in aversion of climate change.

His work and his activism have rubbed off on nearly all of his fans, and in that spirit the Town Ballroom is hosting the 10th Annual Joe Strummer Tribute show. Playing in homage tonight will be Strummer / Clash tribute act, the Ghetto Defendants (both named after Clash songs), Philadelphia Punk-a-Billy band the Prisoners, and the Outer City Orchestra, as well as DJ Dr. Wlsz. A whole lot of music, for not a lot of money (and the money going to the right place. The doors are at 7 PM, tickets are $12 at the door, and a portion of the proceeds will go to Strummerville, and essentially, will be put back into providing us with more amazing music. This is a great way to start your Friday, or before heading out to destroy dubstep.
