Swedish singer-songwriter Kristian Matsson, better known as
The Tallest Man on Earth, will be releasing a new album this summer. His first
since The Wild Hunt, his excellent
2010 release on Dead Oceans, There’s No
Leaving Now will be out June 12th.
The album’s first single, “1904,” is very much in the vein
of his previous releases, while also indicating a move towards slightly fuller
instrumentation. The added guitar and light percussion build upon and complement
Matsson’s voice, and I hope this indicates a general move in that direction.
“1904” hopefully indicates another strong album to fill out
summer afternoons and add to what is quickly shaping up to be a very strong
year for new releases. Check it out below.
Fun Fact: The
only time I have seen a fist fight break out at a concert was at a Tallest Man
on Earth show in Toronto. Fans attacked another man for being too loud and
cutting into the vocals. I have never seen anyone’s singing taken that seriously.
*I should point out that, having seen him live, he is not
the actual tallest man on earth, that honor belongs to Turkey’s Sultan Kรถsen who is 8 ft. 3 in.
