Brooklyn trio Pearl and the Beard are making their second stop in Buffalo in less than a month, having opened for Ani DiFranco in April at the same place they’ll be playing tonight, Babeville. Described by Paste as a trio “[built] on three-part harmonies, cello and a gal just learning to play most of the instruments in her arsenal,” Pearl and the Beard are an up and coming indie outfit, who pride themselves on belting harmonious folk-pop jingles, letting each other's voices encase one another. The group had previously released an EP, At Home With Pearl And The Beard, which is available as a free download on their website, and is now backing their first full-length, Killing The Darlings, which is an interwoven blend of strident tracks like “Reverend”, and the more poignant such as “Black Hole of Calcutta”. Quite aware of their sonic cohesion, the album cover of Killing The Darlings displays a colorful three-person sweater (yup, three persons, one sweater), which was actually handmade by band-mate Jocelyn Mackenzie, who was a textile major in college. The talented and local Americana outfit, Sarah Rose & The Storyville Players will be opening, so get yourself to The Ninth Ward early. Doors are at 7, tickets are $10.
