Yesterday, Pitchfork released the second documentary in their Classic series, this time focusing on Modest Mouse’s stellar 1997 album The Lonesome Crowded West. The 45-minute video features a ton of archival footage of the band when they began, to when they were signed, recorded, and drove cross-country in a van on tour. It also includes exclusive interviews with Issac Brock, Calvin Johnson, and Elliott Smith and delves into the origins of the band and the associated indie rock scenes that came out of Seattle and Olympia, WA in the mid to late 90s. The documentary is extremely well-done, and whether you’re a hardcore Modest Mouse fan or just getting into them, you’ll definitely want to check it out. You can view the entire documentary below:
