Newcastle
has given me at least two great things: a beer by the same name and the rock
outfit Maximo Park. I first stumbled
onto these guys during an airing of an old Glastonbury Music Festival on paladia
and was blown away by their energy on stage.
Maximo Park has released five albums to date and have done very well for
themselves over seas (first two albums went gold) while not really registering
with the American audience. I think they
are worth a listen if you like pop-rock, catchy guitar riffs, and sing-along
choruses. Give “Our Velocity” and “Books
from Boxes” a listen below. I’ll post
the live performance of “Our Velocity” because not only do I love the
“Devo-esqe” synth, but it’s also the first time I had ever heard from these
