Tonight: Fowls, Bryan Johnson and Family, Brother Keep


Rochester-based, soothing group Fowls will headline tonight at DGBG's, with their math-rock infused edges and extended riffs remnant of acts like Built To Spill and Maps and Atlases. Their latest LP, Into The Wild, released this past October is a pleasant division of soft sounds, of course, as the title suggests, exploring the lone feeling of being immersed in nature.

In addition to Fowls, local acts Bryan Johnson and Family and Brother Keep (replacing Marine Biologist on the bill) will open. Bryan Johnson and Family brings a more gritty sound to their surf-pop edge, with rolling riffs. Brother Keep, based out of Buffalo, NY lends a more haunting, reverberating mesh of rock, slightly melancholic, but on par with the likes of Thursday and Death Cab for Cutie. DJ Loren MarcPro will be spinning in between sets. Music starts at 9 p.m., $5!

Tonight: Turkuaz


What's that knock on the door? Who's that, knockin' on your door? You aren't ready, that's too bad, because the funk has arrived, and most importantly, the Brooklyn Power Funk. No matter how prepared you might be, you aren't. It hits you the same way each time--that sassy, finger-snappin', knee shakin' groove. I'm talking Turkuaz here--this nonet (Dave Brandwein, Taylor Shell, Craig Brodhead, Michelangelo Carubba, Greg Sanderson, Josh Schwartz, Chris Brouwers, Geneva Williams, Sammi Garett) will be taking DGBG's by the tip of their finger slides and the heat of their mesmerizing snares. Powerful, yes, in the inspiring way, and this is sure to be an uplifting battle. After sealing a residency at the Brooklyn Bowl, which is one righteous thing to have under their belts, Turkuaz is expanding their presence beyond NYC, and we're jazzed to have them here in Buffalo. Here's the details--Duke's, 9 p.m., $10 at the door, hell yeah.

Tonight: Floodwood



There's great names for some righteous bluegrass: Hot Buttered Rum, The Brummy Brothers, Leftover Salmon, but I have to say, Floodwood takes the cake. Located in the "Leatherstocking Region" on the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains, this funky grass group composed of Al Schnier & Vinnie Amico of moe.,Wooden Spoon alumni Jason Baraday, violinist Nick Piccininni, and Zachary Fleitz, formerly of Hypnotic Clambake, will be picking and slapping up Allen at Duke's for the official moe. after-party at 10 p.m. Bring your moe. ticket stub and a few cover-bucks will slide away!
