You guys know how it is... It's tough being an artist in a blue collar city like Buffalo. As far as Chosen Ones are concerned, they want to go tour the country, and who can really blame them? So tonight, as part of a "California Tour Benefit," Roger Bryan & The Orphans will be joining them at Hardware. Chosen Ones will be playing their new record, They Called Your Number, from start to finish, as well as a set from The Orphans, and punk, reggae, and 80's DJ sets from Bill Page and Pub.
The show is at 10 at Hardware. $5 cover, 21+ to get in. DJ's in the front, bands in the back, kind of like some sort of Hardware-musical-mullet.

If there are any saviors of grunge left in Buffalo, they're the men in Merchants.
The four piece, Benjamin Maries (guitar, vocals), Gabriel Nasca (bass), Steven Gordon (guitar, synth), and Yoav Ehrenhalt (drums), have been carving out their niche in the Buffalo area since 2010 and even used to use the now defunct Mohawk Place as their practice space.
Brooklyn/Buffalo-based record label Admirable Traits took notice of Merchants' penchant for self-depreciative grunge - they will be releasing Merchants' new four-song EP, The Red Room, on March 5th. The EP may be purchased on the band's bandcamp page, iTunes, and Amazon, among many other outlets.
On Saturday, March 2nd, the Vault will host the release show for The Red Room. Sleepy Hahas and JOHNS will open the show. Doors are at 8:30, cover is $8 bucks. Added bonus: $1 beers will be available all night and every paying guest receives a copy of the EP.

Spiral Scratch never really fails to disappoint - this time around, they're bringing the delightfully Archers of Loaf-y Witchfeet. Think driving basslines, gritty vocals, and a pop-sensibility that definitely exists even if you can't quite put your finger on it. The Afterbirth Tycoon and The Word Girls will be opening up the show for what promises to be a fun Saturday night at Spiral Scratch headquarters.
The show is at Spiral Scratch and it starts at 6:00pm. This one is all ages, kids!

After a less than exciting start to 2013, Buffalo seems to be picking up momentum with a handful of exciting dates in the months with warmer weather. In this case, pop-punkers Transit will be making a stop at Soundlab in May - one of a few venues that has been filling the void left by Mohawk Place.
Also playing the show will be indie-punks Seahaven (returning after their stint at the Funeral Home last year) and the southern-tinged emotional bombast of All Get Out (also returning after an opening slot at Mohawk last summer). The show is Sunday, May 12 and doors will be at 6:00. Tickets are $12 in advance and $14 the day of the show.
