If there was a theme to last nights Public Enemy show, it would have to be...love? that's right, the uber-political/racial band was constantly promoting a message of unity, respect and anti-hate through free style raps and preachy banter between songs. The live band was featured regularly though out the set when the MCs would walk off stage giving the spotlight to those members of the show that are often forgotten in the background. Public Enemy was also very appreciative toward the city of Buffalo, telling stories to the audience about their first time in the City. Chuck D asked Flav if he remembered coming to the city with the Beastie Boys and meeting Rick James who praised them as the future of power music. The group re-payed that respected by saying that if it wasn't for Rick James, rap music wouldn't be what it is today. The crowd was extremely enthusiastic through out the entire set and hung on to every word. The same thing that makes Flava Flav such a crazy nut on reality TV made him such an amazing performer on stage, and my thoughts on him changed dramatically. At the very end, Flava Flav gave a 5 min monologue about peace, love, and unity. Then Bob Marley's 'one love' came on the loud speaker. It was more than just a concert. It was a learning experience, and I heard the message.
