Album of the Week
—
Honestly, I can't think of a better choice for this weeks Album of the Week honors than the stellar, self titled debut album of Dead Man's Bones. Started by fellow actors and best friends for eva, Ryan Gosling & Zach Shields, Dead Man's Bones have a sound just perfect for the week leading to Halloween. Its a ghostly gospel ride that's dark & simplistic yet detailed and layered. Backed up by the Silverlake Conservatory of Music Children's Choir, Dead Man's Bones have enough vocals to wake the dead. The full sounding chorus makes for a perfect counter effect to Gosling/Shield's soft as a whisper singing voice, giving the music project a nice sounding vocal balance. The ghostly heartbeat sound effects are also an atmospheric plus too! Although the album is a little more than a year old this is the perfect time of year for a revisit. Hopefully by the time next Halloween comes around they will have enough new material for a second album!
