Album Review: White Bison - February 2011

Recently our offices received a copy of February 2011 from local band White Bison. White Bison, a side project of Ben Hayes, drummer of local band The Found. Hayes, along with frontmen Kevin Di Lucente and Jonathan Bobowicz, produce an exquisitely heavy, deeply psychedelic sound for a three piece. Backed by Hayes throbbing, Bonham-esque tom riffs, Bobowicz and Di Lucente blend the bluesy heaviness of bands like The Sword, with neo-fuzzy psychdelia.

The five track EP is still a lengthy listen, with the average song length about 5-6 minutes. Each song is constantly progressing, defying musical expectations, and leaves the listener in a carriage being towed by a large mammal; unknowing of the destination, but unable to hop off. Some of the break downs are incredibly driven, and head bobbing, and the drums throughout the album mimic a heard running through the plains. With fantastic vocal and instrumental filters, and great EQ balance, this album sounds professionally mixed and mastered.

The band does not have any local shows until June, as they have a few road gigs slated, and Hayes will be splitting time with The Found. More updates, and a sample track can be found on their Facebook or Reverb Nation sites.
