I recently had a chance to meet Jesse Stoddard, a local musician who plays and records under the name of Astronaut Head. Sounding like a touch of Florence & the Machines and Regina Spektor, her lo-fi indie piano pop is fronted by her haunting vocals, resulting in some very blissful, lullaby like tunes. She is currently working on the finishing touches to her Strange Animals EP. You can check out her progress and music at her facebook page, where she includes the bouncy, upbeat "Dinosaurs (OH NO!)", the layered vocals of "James" and an oh so good cover of indie pop band Stars' "Personal". Those looking to catch Astronaut Head live can head over to Merge tonight from 7-9, and the Vault this Thursday at 7 as she is set to open for the Prison Gate Girls. Make sure to catch Astronaut Head soon, though, as Stoddard will be making her way across the pond to Scotland this fall for graduate studies.
