I've said it a million times before, and I'll say it a million times again: Buffalo is an amazing place for artists. Whether you're a painter, an actor, a musician, or if you just moonwalk across the intersection of Elmwood and Allen every now and again, you're sure to be met with a supportive audience. I'm not sure if it's because of our assemblage museums and art galleries, our unique, self-loathing, rust-belt culture, our lack of economic opportunities, or if it's just something in the water, but this city is a great place for aesthetes and dilettantes.
One of the definite reasons for the Queen City's reputation as a cultural hotbed are collectives like WAM! (Writers/Artists/Musicians), who, on the last Wednesday of every month for the last two years, have organized events that allow artists of every medium to get together, showcase their works, and network with others in the community.
Tonight, WAM! will be held at The Eights Bistro (888 Main St) and will feature the psychedelic sounds of Aircraft along with the minimal, yet powerful, expressive paintings of Nava Gidanian-Kagan. As usual, there will be an open mic for spoken word artists and a community painting project to bring everybody together. Get there at 7pm because, well, you're from Buffalo; I know you appreciate Good Art.
