Tonight Mohawk Place braces itself for an all out sludge-fest, as Torche and Big Business make their long awaited stop in Buffalo. Though he recently took some time to reunite with doom metal champ Floor, Torche frontman Steve Brooks will always dedicate himself to his pet project. Brooks claims the band is not a metal band, and though they traditionally tour with bands like Boris or High on Fire, they have also toured with drony indie rockers Mogwai and Godspeed You Black Emperor. Torche blends elements of Floor's brutal sludginess, with elements other genres that one can't necessarily pin down. Big Business does something similar, especially after primary creative forces, Jared Warren and Coady Willis joined the Melvins in 2006. They produce a grinding, industrial sludge that nearly resonates with a country twang at times, and both bands are lucky to kick you in the chest during sound check. Doors are at 8pm, and tickets are $15 in advance. PS, don't sit next to the speakers.
