Later this fall a new Muppets movie, titled simply The Muppets will be released. After watching the trailer, I can't help but feel nostalgic for the great Muppets movies I grew up on from The Muppet Movie, A Muppet Christmas Carol, and especially The Muppets Take Manhattan. The Jim Henson created cast of puppets are timeless and everyone seems to have their favorite Muppet. While Kermit the Frog, the leader and face of the Muppet cast, is up there for me, I always enjoyed the gibberish filled skits of the Swedish Chef and the constant heckling from Statler and Waldorf from their balcony seats.
Anyways, in honor of the upcoming film, Muppets: The Green Album will be released on August 23rd featuring various indie and alternative rock artists including Andrew Bird, OK GO, Sondre Lerche, and My Morning Jacket of classic Muppet songs. For their contribution to the tribute album, My Morning Jacket covers "Our World", which was originally featured on Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas, a Muppets Christmas TV Special from 1977. MMJ's harmony filled rendition of the holiday tune, despite not having that typical holiday song feel, is rather uplifting and lead singer Jim James' soft vocals breezily flow through the plucked banjo strings.
