The Best Music Venues...Outside of the City

Not so long ago, buffaBLOG posted a guide to the best Buffalo music venues for local bands. Personally, I agree with the post's author, especially in regards to Nietzsche's and Mister Goodbar - two great places to see/play a show. I'd also add Mohawk Place, DBGB, the Pearl Street Grill & Brewery, and the Tudor Lounge to the list.

But what about those of us in the suburbs? I'll admit it, I moved back to West Seneca with mommy after graduating in May, and I am not yet cool enough to rent my own apartment in a more hipsterific part of town. Granted, I agree that the coolest places to play are certainly in the city, but there are also many quality venues out in the sticks. So in honor of us lame suburbanites, here are the best venues to see local music outside of the city limits.

Club Infinity (Williamsville)
This is the Tralf of the suburbs; a lot of national acts come through, but often, a local band will catch an opening gig. Also, many local tribute/party bands will play here, such as Buffalo Pink Floyd tribute band Hey You. This is also where bands begin to play once they are too big of a draw for Nietzsche's or the Mohawk Place. For instance, Rochester-based Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad played here, because when they play Nietzsche's, it's gotta be a 2-night run to account for all of the traffic - and when they played at Infinity, local jammers Aqueous opened for them.

O'Neill's Stadium Inn (Orchard Park)
The bar that used to be Milligan's, located right across the street from Ralph Wilson Stadium, is gradually making a name for itself in the music scene. The small, cozy bar lacks a stage, but that lets patrons get right up close to the bands, which have included my own band (AUTOPUNCH), Maryland-based reggae outfit PASADENA (which has turned O'Neill's into a random hotspot), and many more. On August 20, both aforementioned bands will be participating in the first-ever O'Neill's Stadium Stock outdoor music festival, during which a stage will be set up outside the bar and there will be bands all day, fire-throwers, DJs, and more. I see good things for this bar in the future if it continues to support music the way it has.

Crazy Jake's (North Tonawanda)
For our friends in the Northtowns, Crazy Jake's often hosts live music when it isn't hosting its normal party-bar atmosphere. An outdoor stage compliments a raging fire, creating a fun-filled atmosphere with much room for dancing and other horseplay. Everything from rock/blues bands (Powerhouse) to jam bands (Aqueous) to party bands (the Strictly Hip) play at Crazy Jake's, and the venue also often hosts DJs.
