On Friday, voting began in a new contest for a good cause: the Best of Buffalo Benefit Album. Here's how it works: fans vote by choosing from a pool of over 25 local bands. The top ten vote-getting bands will then get to record a song for free at Buffalo's state-of-the-art GCR Audio recording studio, and the 10 songs will be featured on a "Best of Buffalo" compilation album, which will be funded by donations. If you donate at least $10, you'll receive a free copy of the album. The more you donate, the more perks you'll get. The goal is to raise $1500 to cover the studio costs, and all additional money raised (and all proceeds from the album) will go to the Music is Art Foundation - a worthy cause.
Full disclosure: I am in one of the bands (AUTOPUNCH). The editors of the blog know this and assigned this post to me because I was already familiar with the project. We would really appreciate your vote if you like our music, but regardless of the voting, the most important thing for us is how the album is promoting and uniting the local music scene, allowing bands an opportunity to record, and raising money for a music-based charity. We hope we end up on the album, obviously, but there are a bunch of great bands on the list -- Aqueous, Funktional Flow, The Etchings, Gruvology, The B-Side Dubs, and Super Killer Robots, to name only a few others -- so make sure to give them all a listen before you vote, and pick your favorite!
