For those out there still recovering from all the opening weekend happenings and hijinks (and hangovers), Infringement Festival Day Six might be somewhat of a respite. If you're like me and you spent the last few days rushing from one loud band or crazy DJ to the next, then Tuesday should be a good day to give your ears a rest and catch up on some of the other cutting edge projects the Festival has to offer. Some suggestions:
Comedy Film Showcase @ Sugar City 6:00pm
The Do-It-Together venue-gallery on Wadsworth is going to host a handful of funny films with a pay-what-you-want admission price. And if the prospect of seeing John Fink's bizarre commentary on fetish culture and fine art in “Badly Drawn Restraint,” Gary Mooney's eccentric character-vignettes, or a story of fanboy desperation in “The Empire Strikes Bank” don't have you intrigued, then Novim Films promise they have an irresistible surprise in store at the end of their “Something Big” shorts series.
Jangle's Corners @ Soundlab 7pm
Big Orbit Gallery's experimental sister space, Soundlab, is known to most as a music venue. Tonight, it's gonna get extra experimental on you with “Jangle's Corners,” a play about four cocaine-addicted friends who botch a drug deal and wind up with a ton of smack instead of yay. The comedy focuses on their misadventures as they try to figure out how to get rid of if. Maybe they'll give it to the audience? I don't know; you should go find out.
Jacob and Driftwood @ 96 Niagara Falls Blvd 7:30pm
If you find yourself in the Heights tonight and hankering for some folk, head over to 96 Niagara Falls Blvd (btw Kenmore and Main) for this show. Jacob plays some sparse and borderline “anti” folk, and sounds like what would happen if The Books lost their sampler and got hired for the O Brother Where Art Thou soundtrack. And Driftwood not only do their old-timey americana thing well, but they put on a damn fine show (a few summers ago, I saw them end a Nietzsche's set ON THE BAR!).
Ongoing
You really can't avoid the Infringement Festival this week. Buffalo's countless art galleries are hosting innumerable exciting works, while cafes and restaurants are alive with envelope-pushing performances, and even if you try to hide under the bridge at Delaware Park, you are going to encounter a improvisational sound collective exploring the acoustics of the stone (every night at 6pm). There are hundreds of other ongoing exhibits, installations, and performances this week, and your best bet might be to just pick up a copy of the festival guide, or click here. The Infringement Festival is all about individuality, and I can't tell you how to live, so get out there and (inevitably) find something awesome to check out.
