Every summer, local music collective/school Slyboots holds Slyfest, a festival showcasing not only the best music from around the Western New York area, but also bringing together amazing musicians from around the world. While this year's get-together (Slyfest 6) wont go down until the last weekend of August, the organizers have announced that one of the headliners will be Surprise Me Mr. Davis.Even if you're not yet familiar with SMMD, you might know guitarist Brad Barr, drummer Andrew Barr, and bassist Marc Friedman as the jazz-rock trio The Slip. The group is joined by Nathan Moore (guitar/vocals) and Marco Benevento (guitar/keys) to create a sound which was described by that Wikipedia guy as "electro-folk," though their jazz roots aren't left far behind. SMMD has been playing largely as a side-project since 2003, but have been increasingly active after being featured in this year's SXSW.
Slyfest 6 is going down from August 26 - 28 at the North Fork Music Park in Warsaw, NY, and the Slyboots School of Music (350 Ellicott St) will be holding a preview of sorts tonight as part of the Infringement Festival. "Shake Your Glutes at Slyboots" starts at 9pm and features Sonny Baker, Cinnamon Aluminum, A Motel Furnishing, and A Hotel Nourishing.
