After spending nearly 17 years on some dusty shelf, Soma Records will be releasing one of Daft Punk's earliest known recordings. The track, "Drive", was originally sent to Soma as a demo, along with fellow track "Rollin' and Scratchin". The label wanted a version of "Da Funk" so the group sent them a new tape with "Rollin'" and "Da Funk" and the Drive tape was tossed by the wayside, meant for later release. Flash forward nearly two decades. As part of the label's 20th anniversary celebration, Soma will be releasing a boxset which commemorates their success and longevity in the biz. And what better way to celebrate than to include retrospective and unreleased tracks from some of its heaviest hitters. This should come as great news to fans of the band, especially their earlier works. Daft Punk has long been known for their creative string of electro-meets funk-pop tunes. The song will be released on disc one (of three) for the aptly titled Soma Records: 20 Years, to be released September 19th.
