Fresh off the heels of George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic, Toronto based indie rockers Tokyo Police Club will be performing tonight at Thursday at the Square (Harbor). At just over six years old, the band has become a buzz blog staple, and at one point were THE band to check out on MySpace. Their first two full-length albums, A Lesson in Crime and Champ, were released by one of the biggest indie labels, Saddle Creek, putting them in ranks of other accredited indie rock monsters (Cursive, Bright Eyes, The Faint). This quartet is bright and energetic, combining elements of indie pop and with quirky pop punk that is guaranteed to make you tap your feet and knees bounce. Los Angeles times said it best when comparing Tokyo Police Club’s sound to “being in love for the first time, in musical form-that kind of rush.” Goth kids should probably sit this one out. They headline at 7pm.
