Few college students have accomplished what Buffalo native, Dan White already has as a twenty-something saxophonist. A senior at Ohio State, White has released his first album Between the Lines; a jazz compilation of classical notes mixed with fresh and experimental sounds. With the smooth and soulful rhythms of songs like “Fire Blossom” and “Things Behind the Sun”, Between the Lines really delivers a pleasing total package. Regardless if you are a jazz fan or not, “Sandbox” and “Blue Skies” have some great beats which makes it almost impossible not to tap your foot.
Grateful for the chances he's been given so early on in his musical career, White saw this as a great opportunity to give back. All proceeds from the first month of album sales are going straight to the Roswell Park Cancer Institute and the MS Society; two organizations that have had a personal impact on White and his family. The Between the Lines CD release party, held at the Iris Restaurant in Amherst last month, showcased White’s jazz sextet to a big crowd of family, friends, and music lovers in general. Joined by fellow artists from the Columbus and New York City areas, it was fantastic to see a young group of musicians go all out on the rhapsodic songs.
Dan White will be in Buffalo for another show in December, so be sure to keep a look out for the TBA dates and location.
