The Drum Machine Report

Stressful is the buildup to the tough times ahead. Buffalo will embrace hardship as she has done many times in her battered past. Onward we will push, veiled by oversight. Americans will continue to stomp the tip-toe line of destruction and there’s nothing to change it. And on the small scale, we watch, and wait. Filling the gaps with music, writing, art. Getting messed up. The good stuff, that is bore out of experiences and determination. True grit and humor building off of realities of the present and of the future. Musicians and Artists and Models and Writers are all connected this month; the talent of Buffalo will come together and mesh at many different events. This weekend is just kicking it off, and buffaBLOG is all over the scene like Russell’s fingerprints on Katy’s tats. And TDMReport will direct your party train for the weekend ahead.

thursday 9/8

Thursdays at Duke’s

TYPE RELEVANT

10p-4a

21+

DBGB’S

253 allen st. Buffalo, NY

Frosty Tone presents a night featuring Jazz and Hip-Hop fusion band TYPE RELEVANT. You may have seen them at last years Music is Art, or around the town. They have become a Buffalo staple for Hip-Hop and Jam enthusiasts alike. Their performances are always energetic and varied; a pretty cool act. I wouldn’t be writing about the event though unless it included some DJs. It does. BASHA, LOONEY TUNES, and DROP D will hit decks, in support.

friday 9/9

FRICTION

10p-4a

$3/21+

DBGB’S

253 allen st. Buffalo, NY

The Queen City Cartel deals out another winner FRICTION party and it has not even happened yet. Your BROTHER BEAR will kick things off, followed by my new old favs TRAKBENDERS. Then will be the headliner JUST CRIT based out of Phoenix, AZ. Not too familiar with this up and comer but I can tell he’s based in bass. Most likely Dubstep, House, and Moombahton. Closing the night will be everyone’s favorite DnB fusionist LOKI. September’s looking pretty sweet but to have this FRICTION kick it off, should be fantastic. I’m very excited for this versatile lineup that embodies what the party is all about; playing with all different genres and sounds while not sacrificing the integrity of the party-time atmosphere.

DJs FROM OUTER SPACE

6p-4a

$15-20/18+

DNIPRO UKRAINIAN HOME

562 genesee st. Buffalo, NY

The BIG kahuna. Calling itself Buffalo’s premier Electronic music festival, this one-day event will feature 44 extremely talented local DJs and Producers. Spawned from the gatherings at the Cosmopolitan Art Gallery, this event will get the room to stretch it’s legs out in the massive DNIPRO Ukrainian center. I love this space. I have performed in a play there. Friends of mine have been married there. I’m involved in an upcoming event there. Familiarity is definite. Even if there wasn’t a shit-ton of good performances about to happen there on Saturday, I would tell you to go just to check the damn building out. It’s old, creepy, and out-of-this (our) world. Perfect for DJs from outer space. Four stages will be set, the main ballroom, the upstairs club room, the downstairs bar, and outside (weather permitting). Each stage will be thematically similar, but the range of Electronic genres will be extremely broad. You have choices! Feeling the Dubstep mood? Check out the downstairs. Want to get uppity with some House? Head upstairs. You get the idea. Check out the full-flyer for which artists will be on each stage, and check out the DJs FROM OUTER SPACE homepage for complete details, schedule, and tickets. If you live in Buffalo, like to dance, and you miss this party? I’m sorry, we’re through.

Next week TDMReport will preview the Electronic and Dance music on display at the Music is Art festival.

Embrace your fellows in dance and merriment, because you would’t want to have any regrets when it’s all said and done. I mean life as we know it to be. Much love and respect.
