Picking Up the Slack for MTV: Wilco

After two rather average albums from alt-country turned avant pop group Wilco, 2007's Sky Blue Sky and 2009's Wilco(The Album), both of which were given that unfortunate "dad rock" label, the group's eighth studio album, The Whole Love, is set to drop this Tuesday.  A couple weeks back, they hosted a 24 hour listening party of The Whole Love on their website, and it is safe to say, the album is their best in years as the record blends the sun kissed melodies of Summerteeth and Being There 's most somber moments.  The first video from the album is of "Born Alone", a song that begins with a rather simple, guitar pop riff, but concludes with bursts of horns and piano, is one of those typical travelogue videos, nothing groundbreaking of course.  Looking like it could have been shot instagram style, the images go from black and white to various filters to absolutely bursting in colors.  Maybe I am more excited for new Wilco than the actual video, but this should do until The Whole Love drops on Tuesday.
